In Times of Distress

The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are His everlasting arms.
Deuteronomy 33:27

O Lord,My God.  You are my refuge.  You are the place I run when life becomes hard.  Help me to cling to the promises of Your Word.  Give me courage knowing you are holding me up with your everlasting arms.  May this difficulty be a source of blessing in some way.  Guide my life and give me Your comfort.  In Christ's Name.  Amen.

In Times of Sudden Illness

Do no fear, I am with you;  do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you.
Isaiah 41:10

Dearest Lord.  You have given Your Son that I might be Your child.  You are indeed my God.  You do not forsake your children, but are with us in every distress and every situation.  Touch my spirit with Your strength and give me courage.  Relieve fear, strengthen faith, and prosper my hope.  For I know you will help me.  Lord do with me according to Your good and gracious will, but never let me forget that I am yours.  If it be your will grant me healing and restoration to health, but I know in all things I belong to You. In Christ's Name.  Amen

In Times of Long-term Illness

Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am faint; O Lord heal me, for my bones are in agony.
Psalm 6:2

Dear Lord, you are a merciful God.  You poured out Your mercy upon us through the blood of Your Son who died that we might be forgiven and restored to You.  Long have I wrestled with this illness.  But for Your mercy would I not yet be here.  I grow weary.  Sometimes I wonder what will happen.  Sometimes I wonder if it is all worth it.  Touch my heart Lord, and heal my spirit.  I know You will be merciful to me and bless me.  If it be Your will grant me healing, but if not healing then the strength to go onward and make the most of my life, to be of some service to You, so that when it comes my time to come homeward, I can leave this world in peace and joy.  For I know you are a merciful God and will forgive my sins and will cleanse me so that I may be with You where You are.  Bless my family for as I suffer they grieve.  Help them to know too, how merciful a God You are.  Lord I ask all these things through my precious Lord and Savior, Your Son, Jesus Christ.  Amen.

When You Need Surgery

Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7

Lord, I am anxious.  Surgery is never an easy thing.  But it is amazing how You reach out throught the gifts and talents You have given to my doctors and the other care givers who are involved to bring healing.  Bless this surgery.  May its outcome be a blessing for me. If it be Your will may it lead to my healing and restoration to health.  But now at this moment, give me peace and quieten my anxiety.  Remind me of just how much You care for me.  For Your Word reminds me that I am always in Your hands.  Bless this surgery Lord.  I ask this through Your Son Jesus Christ.  Amen.

When Death is Near

You have made known to me the path of life;  you will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand.
Psalm 16:11

O Lord, You are the God who grants us hope.  You have promised us everlasting life through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Through His blood You have forgiven every sin that could have separated us from You and eternal life.  Look now with favor upon Your child, forgive all sin, and grant the comfort of the promise of life that is everlasting.  We ask this through the name of Jesus Christ, the one who was dead but now lives with you forever for He has defeated death.  Amen.

When a Loved One is Lost

I tell you the truth, whoever hears My word and believes Him who has sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned;  he has crossed over from death to life.
John 5:24

O God Almighty, most gracious and most loving, You are not the God of the dead but of the living.  You are the fountain and source of all blessings. We give You thanks that You have blessed our loved one with faith, and that You kept them safe in that faith until the end.  Now You have summoned this child homeward to Yourself.  Give us the comfort of the promise that is heard through Your Word.  Give us strength and hope for the coming days, for we will dearly miss the one You have called home.  But remind us that we all share this hope to gather together in worship before You, the Lord of Life, in paradise.  Lord in Your Name we pray, the name that is above all names, Jesus Christ, Amen.

At times of thanksgiving and blessing

Priase the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name.  Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.
Psalm 103:1&2

O Lord, you have so richly blessed me. You are a God of great blessing and great mercy.  I praise Your Holy name and give You thanks for each and every blessing You have bestowed upon Me.  All that I have is Yours.  May I be a faithful steward of all that You have given me so that I may in some small way touch someone else and bless them even as You have blessed me.  Lord in the name of Your Son Jesus  Christ I pray.  Amen.
